Highly available M-LAG architecture

The S9850 series switches support M-LAG (Multicasting Link Aggregation Group) cross device link aggregation technology (formerly DRNI technology), which achieves cross device link aggregation by virtualizing two physical devices as one device at the forwarding layer, maintaining control layer independence from each other, thereby improving single board level reliability to device level reliability.

M-LAG decouples the control plane from the data plane, and each node device can be independently upgraded to ensure zero interruption of user business.

The dual active access of the device provides device level redundancy protection and traffic load sharing, while improving system reliability.

Suitable for overlay and traditional underlay scenarios, with flexible networking.

IRF2 (Second Generation Intelligent Elastic Architecture)

Faced with the application requirements of unified switching architecture in data centers, the S9850 series switches support IRF2 (second-generation intelligent elastic architecture) technology, which virtualizes multiple devices into one logical device. It has strong advantages in scalability, reliability, overall architecture, and availability, mainly reflected in four aspects:

Scalability: IRF2 technology allows switches to expand multiple devices using interconnect cables; It has the advantages of plug and play, single IP management, and synchronous upgrading, while greatly reducing the cost of system expansion.

Reliability: Through routing hot backup technology, redundant backup and uninterrupted three-layer forwarding of all information in the control plane and data plane are achieved throughout the entire IRF2 group, greatly enhancing the reliability and high performance of the IRF2 group, while eliminating single points of failure and avoiding business interruptions.

Distributed: By using distributed link aggregation technology, multiple uplink links can share the load and backup each other, thereby improving the redundancy of the entire network architecture and the utilization of link resources.

• Availability: The intelligent elastic architecture is implemented through standard 100G/40G Ethernet interfaces, which can allocate business bandwidth and system connection bandwidth according to demand, and reasonably allocate local and upstream traffic; Not only can it achieve intelligent and elastic architecture within racks, across racks, and even across regions over long distances.

Multiple reliability protection

The H3C S9850 series switches have multiple reliability protections at the device level and link level. Adopting overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, and overheating protection technologies, all models support pluggable redundant power modules, which can flexibly configure AC or DC power modules according to actual environmental needs. In addition, the whole machine also supports fault detection and alarm of power supply and fan, supports automatic protection function for unplugged fan to avoid chip damage, and can automatically adjust the fan speed according to temperature changes. These designs make the equipment highly reliable.

In addition to device level reliability, this series also supports rich link level reliability technologies, such as New H3C's innovative RRPP fast ring network protection mechanism, VRRPE, and Smart link. When carrying multiple services and large traffic on the network, it does not affect the convergence time of the network, ensuring the normal operation of services.

Rich QoS strategies

The H3C S9850 series switches support L2 (Layer 2) to L4 (Layer 4) packet filtering function, providing flow classification based on source MAC address, destination MAC address, source IP address, destination IP address, TCP/UDP port number, protocol type, and VLAN. Each 100G port provides a flexible queue scheduling algorithm that can be set based on both the port and queue, supporting five modes: SP (Strict Priority), WRR (Weighted Round Robin), SP+WRR, WFQ, and SP+WFQ. Support CAR (Committed Access Rate) function, with a minimum granularity of 8Kbps. Support port mirroring in both outbound and inbound directions, used to monitor messages on specified ports, copy data packets on ports to monitoring ports for network detection and troubleshooting.

In addition, the S9850 series switches will also support unicast reverse path lookup (uRPF) technology. The principle is that when a data packet is received on one interface of the device, it will reverse search the path to verify whether there is a route from the receiving interface to the specified source address in the packet, that is, to verify its authenticity. If it does not exist, the data packet will be deleted, so that we can effectively prevent the increasingly rampant source address spoofing in the network.
